Metacognitive Reflection
Over the course of this semester, I've seen my writing change and improve vastly. I think I've had much improvement due to the amount of writing we do in class. We've done many different kinds of essay that have helped me to find my writing style. I like doing many writing assignments in class because I like getting the feedback on my writing, and knowing what I can do better. I've had my friends and my family look at my writing to help me see what can be improved. My older brother has been very helpful to me. After I get a grade back on my writing, he looks at it and tells me what I did well, and what I could've done better at. I think my writing will continue to improve over second semester with all the feedback I've gotten. This semester, I think I've improved my analysis and expanding it. While I could expand more on my ideas, I think I've been able to see and interpret ideas in different ways than I used to. I used to write about ideas in a very simple, straightforward way, but now I can see different sides of ideas and expand upon them. I think my analysis can continue to improve, as I'm still learning how to expand on my ideas. I can improve my analysis more by scheduling a writing conference with Ms. Nagi, which is something I should have done during first semester. The writing assignment I'm most proud of is my social concerns final essay. I really connected with my topic, so I was able to really express all my thoughts. I also really enjoyed this assignment because we had a lot of time to work on it. During in class essays. I feel like I have to rush to finish, so I tend to revert back to old writing habits, rather than try and fix them. Since we had about a week to work on the essay, I was able to think a lot about everything I wrote, make changes, and have it revised by my peers to make sure it was the best it could be. I feel this essay was the best reflection of my writing. To help further develop my skills, I think Ms. Nagi could tell me more specifically what it means to expand on my analysis, because sometimes I think my analysis is enough, but I get my writing back and it still says I can expand more.
After reading your reflection, I am noticing that we have very similar strengths and weaknesses. I realize that I, too, tend to revert back to my old writing habits during in class essays due to the lack of time. I think that your goals are very reasonable and appropriate based on your past writing and challenges you still have.
